Can you see where we’re going here??

Prototype is such a good beer and a tidy idea too (which didn’t escape the attentions of some other nifty cwaft beer marketing types) we wanted to broaden the range and play a bit and so Jim from North, Neil – head chef at the Cross Keys and Emma one of our supervisors all took a trip down to Kirkstall Brewery to put together a Porter worthy of the name… errr… type.

Using a similar base to proto we worked up a bracing and firm dark beer with a super smooth edge from a solid malt bill consisting of low colour Maris Otter, Brown malt, Munich, Chocolate, Amber & Crystal Malts. The US edge and firm bitterness was supplied by Chinook alongside Goldings and Dana – 2/3 of the Prototype hopping bill. With snappy dark chocolate notes alongside herbal bitterness, rounded mouth filling nuttiness, malty complexity and a little of that juicy Goldings edge all tied up with a dryish finish that has you reaching for another sip right away.

We’re dead proud of it and it’ll be back in the bars towards the end of May as we’ve a bunch of lovely staff on an early start at Kirkstall Brewery on the 12th to help with the brew – keep your eyes on our twitter feeds #onthebar #nowpouring.
